Complete Opening Day Recap

Opening day has come and passed, and we have seen every teams play their first game. We noticed some history, we saw some injury, and we finally got to see some prospects. We also saw a ton of players around the MLB who took a knee in support of the BLM movement and the fight against systemic racism. Sidebar, the best thing I heard the last couple days was the sound of an HR in an empty park. Man, it's pretty. The first pitch of the season, as we know, was thrown by Dr. Anthony Fauci. That went a bit sideways; you could say as it was way off the plate. But the rest of that game was exciting. The game was delayed by rain and then continues. We then saw the first HR by a DH in a game where there was a universal DH; Giancarlo Stanton did this. The Nationals were without Juan Soto for the series after a positive COVID test. The Yankees ended up winning this game. The battle on the mound was great; Cole had 1ER and 5K, Scherzer had 4ER and 11K. Stanton is my MVP in this one with 3RBI and 1HR. We were jumping over to the game on the other side of the country between the Dodgers and Giants. The Dodgers were without Clayton Kershaw for this game, which was a very last-minute injury update. We got to see Dustin May make his MLB Debut with 4.1IP, 1ER, and 4k. On the other side, we saw a long time vet Cueto go 4IP, 1ER, and 3K. The Dodgers won this game 8-1 on the back of Enrique Hernandez having 5RBI, as well as the team, had 12 hits. We saw Tyler Heineman get the start at Cather for Giants in the spot of Buster Posey, who is out for the season. Be patient Giant fan's we are going to see Joey Bart before we know it. The third game we saw between the Braves and Mets was also an excellent pitchers duel. Mike Soroka and Jacob deGrom both had fantastic games. Soroka ended with 6IP, 4H, and 3K, deGrom on the other side 5IP, 1H, and 8K and was DOMINATE! The only run of the game was the first HR by a DH in an NL v NL game by Yoenis Cespedes, who hasn't played much over the last two seasons. We saw a perfect pitching match almost in the game between the Rockies and Rangers. Marquez went 5.2IP, 2H, 1ER, and 6K; on the other side, we saw Lancy Lynn go 6IP, 2H, and 9K. The only run came off the bat of Odor on a great double to deep right-center. Cincinnati and Detroit squared off, and the Reds ended up winning off a strong start by Sonny Gray. Gray went 6IP, 3H, 1ER, and 9K and looked to be Sonny of old in this start. The Reds were all over the Tigers pitching as we saw Boyd give up 4ER 6H and 2K over 5IP. Mike Moustakas looked good in his Reds debut with 3H, 1HR, 4RBI while manning 2B. CJ Cron was the only bright spot for the Tigers with his HR. We saw some not so good pitching between the Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays. Ryu starting today went 4.2IP, 4H, 3ER, 4K. Morton, on the other side for the Rays, went 4IP, 7H, 6ER, and 4K. Both bullpens went on to close out the games. We saw an HR from my favorite young 2B in baseball Cavan Biggio hit a three-run bomb. While new arrival for the Rays Tsutsugoh also hit an HR today. Biggio was the MVP of the game for me with 2H, 2R, 3RBI, and 1HR. Anthony Rizzo continues to be one of my favorite players in the MLB. In the game today between the Cubs and Brewers, he gave out hand sanitizer to those who reached 1B. He still has plenty as the Brewers mustered just three hits—all three coming from Orlando Arcia, the SS for the Brewers. We saw the first shutout of the season come from Kyle Hendricks go the full 9 with 3H and 9K dominate on 103 pitches. We saw a solid game from Woodruff on the Brewers side go 5 giving up 4H and 2ER, and 5K Ian Happ came through today with a 2R HR. Rizzo, while handing out sanitizer, had an HR as well. To my surprise, among others, we saw the Marlins win against the Phillies. The Phillies had a subpar start to the season from Nola going 5.1IP with 5H, 4ER, and 7K. On the other hand, Alcantara started his season off with a strong 6.2IP, 3H and 1ER, and 7K. The Marlins offense was a team effort tonight—a strong all-around performance. Two strong pitching performances are coming from the Royals and Indians. The Royals lost due to starter Danny Duffy giving up 2ER over his 4.1IP and 2K. While Shane Bieber went 6IP giving up 4H and 14K's! Both bullpens looked excellent in this one as well. At the same time, Oscar Mercado leads the charge by getting a hit and then scoring. The RedSox put a beating on the Orioles, scoring 13 runs! The game was just a terrible pitching effort on the Orioles pitching staff as a whole each pitcher gave up at least two runs. Everyone on the RedSox was hitting today, especially JD Martinez and Kevin Pillar lead the way with a combined 6RBI. They scored 13 runs while hitting no HR, which was impressive. Along with a strong six innings from Eovaldi helped win the game. The Twins scored ten runs today, and the HR started quickly for the Twins as the first AB was an HR> Both the HR came from Kepler. Rookie OF Luis Robert, on the other side for WhiteSox's first hit, was 116MPH off the bat. Another promising prospect young star for the Whitesox was beaten up a bit. Giolitto lasted only 3.2IP while giving up 6H and 7ER. Yoan Moncada was almost the entire offense as getting 3H and 3RBI. The Cardinals and Pirates had a close game ending in 5-4. Musgrove for the Pirates went 5.2IP, giving up 5H and 3ER while getting 7K. Jake Flaherty had an excellent start going 7IP while giving up 5H but only 2Er while getting 6K. It was a team effort for the Cardinals having O'Neil, Fowler, and Dejong all homer in the game. The sparks for the Pirates came from Osuna and Stallings, getting 2RBI and keeping the game close. The Astros rode Verlander's strong start to a win beating the Mariners. JV went 6IP giving up only 3H, 2ER, and getting 7K's. The Mariners offense came from Kyle Lewis and Kyle Seager, both hitting an HR. In comparison, the Astros had a hitting party to drive in their runs and getting a three-run HR from Brantley to seal the deal in the 5th. The pen was lights out after that for the Astros. The Astros weren't the only team getting runs today out west as the Padres put seven on the D-backs. The D-backs got a quality start from Bumgarner going 5.2 giving up 4H and 3ER while Paddack gave the Padres 6IP giving up only 4H and 0ER while notching 4K. Hosmer was on fire tonight, going 3/4 with 6RBI! Have yourself a night! We saw the Giants and Dodgers go at it again on day 2. With the Dodgers putting up nine on the Giants. The Dodgers leaned on an excellent start from Stripling while he held the Giants to 4H and only 1ER and getting 7K over 7IP. The pen did the rest. The Giants had an overall poor effort from their staff today, giving up a combined 13H. The Dodgers' offense came from Muncy, Turner, and Smith all getting 2RBIs a piece tonight. In contrast, Giants OF Jaylin David hit a home run and got the only run for the Giants. Wrapping up the night, we had the first extra-innings game of the season between the Angels and Athletics. I was able to watch a good chunk of this game tonight, and I loved having baseball back. Both starters in the game did exceptionally well, Heaney for the Angels went 4.2 giving up 2H, 1ER and getting 6K. For the A's Montas went 4IP gave up 3H and only 1ER as well and getting 5K. The A's Laureano hit 2HR for the A's. While Fletcher, Castro, and Goodwin all got an RBI apiece for the Halo's The bullpens did well until the 10th when Angels reliever Hansel Robles faced A's 1B Matt Olson with the bases loaded. Then we ended opening day with a 427-foot GRAND SLAM to complete a much anticipated opening day!
