West Update: Seattle Mariners

Overall
This is going to be hard to stay impartial in this post because I love the Mariners. But still, I got this and will to the best I can.
Health is a major factor for Seattle. Getting Haniger, Austin Adams healthy. Keeping Kyle Lewis healthy and making sure they get healthy seasons from all their most promising talent. Another major factor for the M's is getting playing time for the likes of Shed Long, J.P. Crawford, Evan White, Lewis, Fraley, Sheffield, Dunn, Kikuchi. These guys will need to eat up as much playing time as they can in the 2020 season. Its sink or swim for these guys and I fully expect them to get all the help they need to swim.
The Mainers have come out and said this year is for the development of the guys I mentioned in this piece and those I haven't to get all the time they can do get better. They want this group of talent to succeed and I do see it happening. They have an open checkbook coming in the next couple years and their payroll is among the lowest in the MLB.
I have been saying this in all my AL West posts. The Astros have a closing window and they won't be able to retain their players and it's going to be wide open for the taking in this division come 2021 and 2022 and that's where the Mainers are looking to strike big.  Hang in there Seattle Fans. Our time is coming.

Hitting
When we left spring training, we were looking at an OF that originally was supposed to feature Kyle Lewis, Mallex Smith, and Mitch Haniger to start the season. We get to spring and then it was Kyler Lewis and Mallex Smith as locks for spots. Then they added CarGo and Cowill, neither will most likely make the team. Then they optioned both Braden Bishop and Jose Siri got claimed off waivers.  Which really left it down to Jake Fraley who should get the opening day nod. But don't count out seeing the likes of Jerred Kelenic and Julio Rodriguez in the OF this season as well. But the M's could also use Tim Lopes and Dylan more as UTIL guys for the 2020 season and as 4th OF's.
Two guys that did also get optioned to AAA were Patrick Wisdom and Donovan Walton.
The Mariners have given long term investments in Marco Gonzalez and 1B Evan White. I have been following White for a long time and guys he is ready for the MLB and he will be a Gold Glove 1B before long.

Pitching
Two guys we won't see at least to start the 2020 season are Zac Grotz and Taylor Williams who both got optioned to AAA. It was kind of surprising to see these two and they have shown to be respectable bullpen pieces thus far in their MLB experience. But at least they are still on the squad as Sam Tuivailala was released after concerns over his shoulder. He is only 27, recovering from a torn Achilles and he did drop almost 10MPH on his fastball which was above 95 in 2018. Now when he was in spring this season he couldn't;t top 88. Along with Tuivailala, Cody Anderson was also cut.
The Mariners are really hoping to get a good long look at Justus Sheffield, Justin Dunn and soon Logan Gilbert who was in camp and already was at AA and is a top 100 prospect.

Article:
But to just say if you want to see everything Jerry Dipoto has done as GM and all his trades check out Steve Adams article here https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/04/gm-trade-history-jerry-dipoto-mariners.html - I honestly read through all of these and it seemed a majority have actually really worked out for Mariners as we are starting to see some of the guys who were really good prospects at the time they were dealt not actually pan out. This is just a credit to Dipoto who has a much better eye for talent than Jack Z ever did.
