NL Update: San Diego Padres

Overall
It is only a matter of time before Fernando Tatis Jr. gets a deal like Acuna got from the Braves. That is if the Padres actually want to spend money in the right spot. Speaking of talent the Padres have they have plenty on the way in top-notch pitching prospects MacKenzie Gore, Luis Patino who could both reach the MLB level in 2020. CF Taylor Trammell is not looking at being in AAA and really having to push the Padres hand to be at the MLB level. Others include P Michel Baez, P Adrian Morejon- both top 100prospects, P Ronald Bolanos, P David Bednar both of who had some time with the Padres in 2019. Jake Cronenworth is worth mentioning because he could somehow end up as a two-way player.  Needless to say however 2020 looks depth in the pitching department is going to be key and the Padres have plenty of it. With the rise of prospects the Padres and their depth. It's really a tough race between the Padres and the D-backs for 2nd in the division.

Hitting
Prize from the 2019 offseason Manny Machado did very well in the first year of his 10year contract with the Padres, but it didn't really feel like he did. Like the expectations weren't meet. He still only hit 256BA had 32HR but did SO 5% more than in 2018. I wouldn't call him a full-on rebound candidate but they have him for 9 more years and going into this prime at 27yo. They can't afford to get any less than amazing from him if they want to catch the Dodgers. One guy that was actually bad, bad, bad was Jurickson Profar, who they got in a trade from the A's. He was just bad in all areas, defensively, offensively and had negative metrics everywhere. Here is to hoping Profar who is still just 27 can turn it around in all areas for the Padres.
It isn't all bad for the Padres who have some good position players on the line who be around for a long time in Trent Grisham, Franchy Cordero, and Francisco Mejia.
One guy who won't be around for the Padres is IF Gordon Beckham who was released by the club

Pitching
You guys remember that really injured pitcher for the Angels that was awesome before he couldn't get over the 80IP mark in a season since 2015 if you guessed Garrett Richards- you are right. Richards had Tj in 2018 and the Padres signed him to a two year deal worth 15.5mil. The 2020 season we do get, we hope to see Richards of old.
Two guys going down to TJ surgery the Padres were really hoping for to make an impact in the bullpen this season Andres Munoz and Reggie Lawson, will not be guys to look forward to midseason 2021
Byt other young arms who are going to benefit from the injuries are Chris Paddack, Dinelson Lamet and Joey Lucchesi to be able to show they belong and should be kept around for a long time. Along with Kirby Yates who after another solid year should get a great deal. A guy that did get a great deal was P Piere Johnson who signed a 2 year 5mil deal with the Padres after being dominant over in Japan last season.
One guy that will get a longer look for the Padres is P Gerardo Reyes who was optioned to AAA
