NL West Update: SF Giants

Overall
The Giants are in my opinion WAY behind in their rebuild. Bumgarner should have been traded two years ago. They haven't had any FA signings of recent memory go right for them to get prospects back. They need to hope to sell on some on their vets to get some prospects back. The only guys I am honestly excited about is Joey Bart. Giant fans, LEARN HIS NAME, go buy his card now and he will be your next Buster Posey. Those are big shoes to fill but Bart has the right talent to do it.
The team optioned a couple guys who showed flashes of potential in 2019 in P Shaun Anderson and OF Steven Duggar. Don't be shocked to see both these guys back up with the club in 2018 because of how the rotation is shaping up to be and I don't think the Giants should bank of NRI Billy Hamilton for the season in Center. In terms of young talent, I really do not see the Giants with a lot of capital invested in their young guys or many promising guys to invest in. with many vets underperforming their deals and a lot of the young guys not proving their worth for a deal. The Giants, after trading their star pitcher in Bumgarner to a division rival, they need to clear the books as fast as they can to get back into contention.

Pitching
Johnny Cueto this dude was a beast when he got signed by the Giants and got the money to show for it. He was an Ace and since has been well a letdown, to say the least. 2018 he had TJ surgery, last season injuries held him to 16IP. it really looks like Cueto who is now 34 wants to pitches more than he has over the last 3 years. Combined during those 3 years he has only pitched 216 1/3 over 3 seasons. Before coming to the Giants that was just 1 season back in the day for Cueto. The Giants are hoping to get their 47Mil worth out of Cueto the next two seasons.
These next four guys combined pitched to 5.37ERA  with the lowest of the four postings a 4.17 those 4 are Trevor Cahill, Tony Watson, Derek Rodriguez and, Kevin Gausman. The 4.17 was from Tony Watson. All of these 4 had the worse year to date in their career in terms of metrics. It will be really interesting to see if Rodriguez and Gausman will be in the Rotation or as a swingman. We also don't even know if Cahill will make the team. These four all have a long way to go towards redemption. A shortened season doesn't help them if they make the same mistakes as 2019.
With all the rebounds the Giants are somewhat banking on one guy we won't see in 2020 who looked like we were going to is Tyler Beede he also had an ERA and HR problem in his first MLB action. Which is a common theme for Giants pitchers? We are likely now to see Rodrigues, Trevor Oaks, Cahill and or Logan Webb in the rotation for Giants.
One good thing in terms of pitching for Giants is they released Jerry Blevins and somewhat indicated they are planning of using Jarlin Garcia and Wandy Peralta in bullpen roles.

Hitting
Remember the winter of 15/16 when the Giants signed Jeff Samardzija, Johnny Cueto and OF Denard Span. They signed Span to a 3-year 31Mil contact. Needless to say, that was an offseason full of mistakes for the Giants. Except for maybe Samardzija who has been decent and at least on the field more often than not. But imagine if they would have signed the likes of Jason Heyward to the same awful contact he got from the Cubs yikes. Joey Bart looks to be the man the Giants are looking at to replace Posey, he knocking on the door after being drafted in 2018 as the number 2 pick. He has a 316BA in AA last season. Giants fans need to learn this kid's name. Among other youngsters on the rise for Giants are Mauricio Dubon who could end up in CF or as a MIF, Jaylin Davis should also get a look as he has really good power which isn't a theme on the Giants roster.
