Pitching:
One of the bigger names floating around already for next year's free-agent targets is Trevor Bauer who, to say the least, did not impress in his Reds debut last season. He pitched to 6.39ERA over 56 1/3IP. Combined stat total for last year was 4.48ERA and across all stat categories, he was very average and nothing special. Hopefully, we can see him turn it around and pitch up to his potential and name value.
Pedro Strop is the next guy who only signed a one-year 1.825Mil contract, which will more than likely be a value for the team. Strop has been a very good pitcher out of the pen and has shown he can hold down a consistent role in the pen. Needless to say, his contract year did not go to plan for. I expect the 34yo to adjust to his dip in velocity to make himself a little more valuable for his next run a contract.
Thinking of this team and pitching. I am going to throw some Statcast stats out there. Then I will tell you who it is: Fastball velocity: 78th percentile, Exit velocity: 81st percentileFastball spin: 86th percentileStrikeout percentage: 88th percentilexwOBA: 98th percentileHard-hit percentage: 98th percentile. Now the first names I am sure came to mind was Luis Castillo, Anthony DeSclafani. Which are two good guesses, but you're wrong. Its who I think will be the number two to Luis Castillo and push Declafani to 3rd in the rotation. That man is Robert Stephenson. This kid had a bright future at 27yo. Its been a long road, but he looks to be ready to make a late bloom and jump to relevance.

Hitting
Joey Votto said the following in Feb “It’s the worst season I’ve had in my career, pretty clearly. I don’t think it’s close. Everything went the wrong way.” The going to be 36yo Votto who is a former MVP, one of my favorite players, and a 6-time all-star. Looks to finally have a real contending team around him! If he wants to make a run at a title. The Reds need him to be good old Joey Bats of old and continue to produce career average numbers.
3B Eugenio Suarez looked to be getting ready to play on opening day and then the season got suspended. But that's an encouraging sign for the Reds as it allows more time for him to get healthy for the season. If we don't see him ready. I fully expect Nick Sentzel to play some 3B for this team.

Overall
This team, like I mentioned when I talked about Joey Bats, looks to be ready to contend for the first time in a long long time. But kind of a damper on that, so do the Brewers and Cardinals. I think they need to find a permanent spot for Sentzel to be able to keep him long term. I think that their young guys they have turned out will keep moving up and into core pieces for the team. Look for them to stay in the hunt for the next couple seasons.
