NL Central Update: Chicago Cubs

Overall:
The Cubs have quite a few guys who could use an extension if the Cubs want to stay relevant and in a good way. For everything that is good, lock up Kris Bryant and stop talking about trading him. Lock up Javier Baez- he is the face of that team and just fantastic. Gey Wilson Contreras(C) and Kyle Schwarber(OF) new contracts. They have plenty of young guys who they could sign for cheap in Nico Hoerner(IF), Victor Caratini(C), Iann Happ(OF). The did do a deal with David Bote which I hope is the first of many for the Cubs.
Look out for Nico Hoerner, Robel Garcia start to make an impact at the plate and in the field. Adbert Alzolay, Cory Abbott, Tyson Miller, Justin Steele- look to make an impact in the Rotation for the Cubs. James Norwood, Dillion Maples, and Duane Underwood Jr all to start having an impact in the Cubs pen.
The Cubs are in a weird place. Like their division has gotten tougher and I feel they got a little complacent in competing and saw their team as a lock. I think their WS hangover should finally end, they need to make somewhat I call money moves and lock up their core and get back into serious contention which they have Bryant, Contreras, and Baez going into their prime years. Their window is still there and they need to go after it and stop doing NOTHING!

Hitting:
One hitter the Cubs need a better outcome from is Daniel Descalso. He is 33yo and isn't much of a power bat. He is more of a contact guy that gets on base. Not last season, he was kinda less than great and has nowhere to go but up.
If you haven't read this awesome article by Jeff Todd titled "Butterfly Effects & The Jason Heyward Signing" read it here now and cubs fans I am so sorry about this awful signing. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/03/butterfly-effects-the-jason-heyward-signing.html

Pitching:
Wanted to talk about Tyler Chatwood for a second skipper David Ross said he could use Chatwood in a long relief role, any role in the pen or as it looks now as the 5th starter. How I see it, he will be in the pen with his 99MPH fastball and just kind of be flex guy for the Cubs pen.
Two guys the Cubs need to get better production out of Craig Kimbrel who they signed to a 3 year 43Mil deal last season. he battled elbow issues only threw 20 2/3 innings and allowed 15 runs. He did get 30 punchouts and throw a high 90's fastball. They need Kimbrel to stabilize a bullpen that lost a lot of its arms this offseason.
Another guy is Jeremy Jeffress, to say the least, his season went so bad that he go released in September from a contending team. His season was so bad he only got an 850K guarantee on his contract. To say the least, let's hope for 2018 numbers, a better than 5.02ERA  and a better velocity than 93.8 on his fastball.
Dillon Maples was optioned to AAA which was surprising and not at the same time. He has struggled at the MLB but with the state of the pen for the Cubs, I would have thought he would be on the club. He has a bad walk issue but did do well last season to a 3.77ERA over 43IP. I would not be shocked by how the season looks now that he might end up being on the club when 2020 season starts.
Another great read to view is by Anthony Franco titled "Transaction Retrospection: Jose Quintana/Eloy Jimenez Trade" great article to look at how the trade for Quintana is shaking out. In my opinion, I think the Cubs could have Eloy Jimenez which would be much better.
