Al East Update- New York Yankees

Al  East Update- New York Yankees

Pitching:
With Paxton going down, Severino still now being ready. The Rotation for sure has new arrival Gerrit Cole who looked great in spring training, Tanaka who also had a solid year and should be solid again, JA Happ and Jordon Montgomery should be the 4th starter, but coming off a Tommy John surgery. That's not a lock. So who should we see compete: Jonathan Loaisiga- he has electric stuff, control issues and maybe even stamina issues. I would rather see him come out of the pen and be a spot starter for Yankees. Clarke Schmidy- hasn't pitched above AA but we see a lot of good players at the AA level. He has the talent to be a mid-rotation kind of guy, which is what the Yankees need out of the 2017 first-round pick. Delvi Garcia- struggled in AAA last year but is also a high-end prospect for the Yankees. He is only 20 and has a lot of room for growth. Mike King- had a September stint last season, he was injured in 2019 but has shown well in MiLB. Chad Bettis- this is personally who I think. They signed him to Minors deal but has the experience to be a decent 5th option and with the offense, they can bail him out. Luis Cessa- did pitch in the bullpen, but did does throw pretty hard, similar to Loaisiga he profiles more like an RP. They also have some vets in camp- Bettis, David Hale and Nick Tropeano who could crack the rotation.

JA Happ- he didn't seem worth the deal he got as he struggled to say the least. Also, his 2021 option will vest if he pitches a 165 IP or 27 starts this season. Which the Yankees could use both of from the 37-year-old considering their need.

James Paxton-after a back surgery in December he did start working out again and throwing before the suspension he does see possible a shot of being there for opening day now. If not shortly thereafter by the end of May

Domingo German who had a good season was also suspended 81 games in 202 for violating the MLB domestic violence policy. Which is sad, id rather it be drugs.

Hitters:
Looking at bonce back guys: Giancarlo Stanton- he has not been healthy when he has, he's still dominating. So, now idea what the season holds for him. But if he's healthy and can log at least like 140 games maybe even 120 we can see him hit maybe 35-40HR
Miguel Andujar also needs a bounce back after injury- He did lose his B gig to Gio Urshela who balled out. He now looks to be a 3B/1B/OF/DH  but he isn't the best defender. So he is only valuable or holds value with his bat.

Speaking of injuries, Aaron Judge- yup he's hurt this time a stress fracture in his ribs. Yikes- but considering the suspension of the season. He has plenty of time to recover.
They do have Mike Tauchman, Clint Frazier, Andjur who are the backup plan for the OF

Gary Sanchez had a sore back- with the extra time off he will be good if not the Yankees have Erik Kratz to play C

Overall
The suspension and cancellation of Spring Training may be a blessing for the Yankees as the core of their team recovers from injuries and gets healthy with the aims of staying healthy. The rotation may be an issue, but with the high power offense, they have. I don't think they are too worried about not being able to keep up in games. Plus they have arguably the best closer in baseball and a solid bullpen to close out games.
