NL East Update- New York Mets

NL East Update- New York Mets

BREAKING NEWS: When I originally wrote this on 3/21, news broke 3/24 that Mets ace Noah Syndaagard- Will MISS all of 2020 due to TOMMY JOHN surgery. This will keep him out until at least APRIL 2021!! This is some huge news as now we look at this rotation of deGrom, Stroman, Matz, Rick Porcello, and Michael Wacha. This is still a good rotation if all pieces stay healthy for the season. This team has postseason aspirations and its really going to come down to these guys in the rotation to step up and fill the void that Syndaagard leaves.

Pitching:
The pitching has a trio of pitchers who could be the most dominant trio in the NL in late innings of Edwin Diaz who as a Mariners fan I miss greatly, Jeurys Familia, Dellin Betances who are all great out of the bullpen late in games. All have great stuff and look to rebound for getting roughed up by hitters or injuries from their 2019 season. This should give them a top-end pen to follow up on their great rotation and win A LOT of games.
Rick Porcello/Michael Wacha both are looking to show they belong in rotation and having to follow the likes of the top 3 guys in this rotation- Syndaagard, deGrom, Stroman, and Matz it could either a smooth and slight decrease or a really big drop off. only time will tell. Porcello is former Cy Young winner and Wacha has been hit by injuries but has shown he can be a good solid rotation piece.
The Mets did offer journeyman RP Edwin Jackson a deal but did not end up getting his services.\

Hitting:
One thing I am sure those reading this as fans of the Mets are happy about is the salary they gave Pete Alonso. To me, it looks like its only a matter of time before they give their young slugger a nice extension with the team to keep him long term and keep him hitting bombs for the Mets.

The team needs at least a career average year with little injury from Robinson Cano who I was so glad to see go as a Mariners fan. Hopefully, he can build off the 2nd half of the season where he showed up and played much better. So it might just be too early to write the 37-year-old off at this point. I do want to see a move to 1B for Cano at this point in his career but with Pete Alonso and being in the NL I don't see that happening.  Another couple guys they could use some better production from then they got last year are Wilson Romas(C), Jed Lowrie(IF) and Yoenis Cespedes(OF). I want to focus on Cespedes for a second as injuries keep slowing him down. he is so talent and such a great threat in the lineup. But I guess we just need to wait and see. Brandon Nimmo who I think is the best on this topic in a list of guys who need to show up. too many injuries for Nimmo held him down last year to awful production so hopefully, a healthy 2019 pushes him o where he is capable of.

Overall:
This team is stacked top to bottom with talent, young talent and so much potential. Look at this roster its similar to that of the Braves where they have a ton of young talent that's under 28. They have guys who need to show they still got it all those I mentioned above. With this mix of the bullpen, deep starting pitching that can take innings and give you great results. Keep games close and a lineup who can hit and get on base and do a lot of things. Expect great things from this team.
